Aberdeen FC have appointed Adrian Bevington as their new chief executive. The former English Football Association director takes over with immediate effect following Alan Burrows’ departure from the role.
Chairman Dave Cormack stated that Bevington was the perfect candidate to replace Burrows, who left after three-and-a-half years for family reasons. "I've known Adrian for many years, and he has always impressed me with his calm and clear thinking about the game, as well as his ability to handle a high-profile role as a chief executive in professional football," Cormack said.
Bevington brings over two decades of senior management experience, most notably from a 17-year spell with the English FA where he served as managing director of the England national teams and group communications director. His club background includes executive advisory roles at Aston Villa and a stint as a consultant chief executive at Nottingham Forest. He also worked alongside Steve Gibson and Neil Bausor at Middlesbrough and acted as a tournament adviser for the Welsh FA during their Euro 2016 campaign.
The appointment was confirmed on Tuesday as Aberdeen look to stabilise their off-field leadership. The club currently sits eighth in the Premiership, having taken seven points from their first six matches. Their recent form shows one win, two draws and two losses from the last five games, a run they will aim to improve upon with Bevington now in post.
His immediate focus will be on supporting the football operation as Aberdeen prepare for their next fixture, a home match against fifth-placed Motherwell on 30 December.
