Aberdeen FC emphatically ended a dismal away league run stretching back to December 2025 with a commanding 4-0 victory at Motherwell's Fir Park. The result, their biggest win at the ground in 42 years, lifts them to within a single point of their hosts in the Premiership standings. The win also marked a significant improvement in their recent form, moving them to four points from their five league matches this season.
Manager Stephen Robinson praised his side's performance after what he called a "really gusty cup win" at Kilmarnock earlier in the week. "They’re a really good team and to put in that level of performance and score so many goals, not many do it here," Robinson said. He added that the win provides momentum but stressed the need for consistency, pointing out that the team has struggled for points on the road, making this victory all the more key.
The goals came from three players opening their accounts for the club. Gavin Molloy broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, followed by Connor Ronan just after half-time and Ayoub Mouloua in the 76th minute. Kevin Nisbet, who provided the assist for Ronan's goal, then capped the scoring with his 11th of the campaign late on.
Robinson highlighted Molloy's surprise contribution and the team's disciplined approach. He said the players deserved full credit for executing the game plan, protecting central areas and exploiting space on the flanks to create numerous chances. The manager also revealed he had learned of chief executive Alan Burrows' resignation just before kick-off, but insisted his focus remained on keeping the squad believing through a challenging period. Robinson noted the team's work in the final third was particularly effective, leading to the four-goal haul.
The victory moves Aberdeen up to 10th place in the Premiership, now on four points from five matches. Their next fixture is a home clash against Motherwell on 30 December, where they will look to build on this result.
