Topi Keskinen has put Aberdeen FC’s 2025 Scottish Cup triumph at the top of his career so far. The flying Finn helped the Dons beat Celtic on penalties on May 24, 2025, ending a 35-year trophy drought for the Granite City. Aberdeen FC now sit 8th in the Premiership with 33 points from 33 games and recent form of LLWDW.
What happened in the 2025 Scottish Cup final?
Keskinen’s penalty save against Celtic sealed the win and the moment he still can’t quite believe. “Lifting the Scottish Cup with Aberdeen has been the biggest moment so far,” he said. “Even though I believed we’d win, I still couldn’t believe it when Dimi Mitov saved the second penalty. Everyone just started shouting and running towards Dimi. We were shouting like little kids running around the field.”
Days before the final, Celtic had thumped Aberdeen 4-0 in the league. Keskinen admitted the side were written off. “Most people thought Celtic would win the final,” he recalled. “But as players we genuinely believed we’d win. The atmosphere was crazy with the 50/50 split and in cup finals anything can happen.”
Why it matters for Aberdeen FC
The trophy ended a 35-year wait for the club and the city. Aberdeen had last lifted the Scottish Cup in 1990. Keskinen’s medal now sits with his parents for safekeeping. “I still look at it and it reminds me of a very special time at Aberdeen,” he said.
The celebrations spilled into the streets of Aberdeen. “I couldn’t believe how many people were out on the streets,” Keskinen said. “There were people everywhere. The celebrations in the city were really special. We could see what winning that cup meant to the club, the people and the city.”
What comes next for Keskinen?
Keskinen sealed a seven-figure move to Odense last week. He left Aberdeen days after the parade to join the Finnish under-21 squad for the European Championships. “My flight was the next morning so I wasn’t really able to celebrate as much as the others,” he admitted. “But that weekend is one I will never forget.”
Aberdeen FC now sit 37 points behind league leaders Heart of Midlothian with a goal difference of -15. The Dons have scored 33 goals and conceded 48 this season.
