Stephen Robinson has conceded he may have rushed Tony Yogane into the Aberdeen FC first team, but the manager is now seeing the winger's growing influence. The 21-year-old, a six-figure signing from Brentford, won a penalty in the Dons' 3-1 weekend win over St Mirren as the club looks to build momentum for a top-six push.
Robinson took responsibility for Yogane's early integration, which has seen the player substituted at halftime on several occasions. "Tony won the penalty and did really, really well," Robinson said. "He needs to keep working on his end product. He wasn’t in those positions previously." The manager described Yogane as a "super character" and a "super, super player" whose personality helps him "hold court" in the dressing room.
Building on Pittodrie win
The victory over St Mirren, secured with goals from Brad Lyons, Kevin Nisbet and Ayoub Mouloua, was only Aberdeen's second league win at home this season. It moved the side to seventh in the Premiership with 11 points from nine games, a position detailed in the current standings. Their form has been inconsistent, with three wins, two draws and four losses leaving them with a neutral goal difference of 10 scored and 10 conceded.
Robinson has challenged all his wingers, including Yogane, Lewis Smith and Hicham Mahou, to improve their output. He pointed to the need for patience with the young recruit, whose confidence is evident in his unorthodox habit of wearing his boots without tying the laces. "I would have tripped over if my boots weren't tied," Robinson joked, adding that he will help the player maintain his self-belief.
The stakes at Tannadice
The immediate focus shifts to a key away match against Dundee United this Saturday. A win at Tannadice would lift Aberdeen above their opponents and into the top six, while a defeat would leave them four points adrift of Jim Goodwin's side. The Dons won the last meeting between the clubs 3-0 in August, and they will look to top scorer Kevin Nisbet, who has four goals this season, to lead the line again.
Aberdeen's recent form shows promise, with three wins in their last five matches. The fixture at Dundee United, who sit one place and a handful of points above them, represents a direct opportunity to alter the early-season narrative. The full run of upcoming games is available on the club's fixtures page. Robinson's side travels down the A90 on 24 October 2026 aiming to convert their budding promise into tangible league position.
