Aberdeen FC goalkeeper Marius Muller has said he understands fan frustration and would have booed the team himself after a dismal goalless draw with Kilmarnock at Pittodrie. The result extends Aberdeen's winless run to four matches and leaves them 10th in the Premiership with just four points from five games.
Stephen Robinson's side failed to score for the fourth consecutive match, despite playing against ten men for over half an hour after Kilmarnock's Aaron Tshibola received two yellow cards. Visiting keeper Marius Muller, no relation to the Aberdeen player of the same name, made key saves to deny Joe Hugill and Cathal McCarthy, securing Killie's first point of the season. The Dons' own German goalkeeper, Marius Muller, was a spectator for much of the action at the other end.
Speaking after the match, the experienced German shot-stopper did not shy away from the team's poor form. "Yeah, for sure - it's also my expectation, because that was the reason I came here," Muller said. "It's a very big football club in Scotland and I can understand 100% the frustration." He added that the dressing room atmosphere reflected the poor results, drawing on his long career. "We have every negative emotion at the moment, I played now nearly 400 games - I was so often in this situation."
The draw means Aberdeen have scored only two league goals all season while conceding seven, leaving them with a negative five goal difference. They currently sit a massive 11 points behind leaders Celtic in the title race.
A significant part of the problem lies in a lack of creativity, particularly from wide areas. The team has relied heavily on Kevin Nisbet for goals recently, but the striker was substituted at halftime in recent games before picking up an injury. This has placed more responsibility on wingers Tony Yogane and Toyosi Olusanya, but neither has provided the necessary spark. Midfielder Lewis Smith was introduced against Kilmarnock in an attempt to change the game, but the breakthrough never came.
The injury to Nisbet is a major blow for a team already struggling for offensive output. Manager Stephen Robinson must find a solution quickly, with the next fixture a important away match against St Johnstone on December 26th. St Johnstone are currently one place above Aberdeen in 9th. Fans can check the full fixtures list for the rest of the season's schedule.
Attention now turns to the Premier Sports Cup, where Aberdeen have a semi-final place at Hampden within reach. Their next match is a return fixture against Kilmarnock, this time at Rugby Park. The cup offers a chance for redemption and a route to silverware this season.
In goal, the 36-year-old Muller provides veteran presence. He was joined at the club this summer by fellow German Danny Klein, a free agent for nearly two months before signing. Muller also works with goalkeepers Nick Suman and Rodrigo Vitols under the guidance of coach Craig Hinchliffe. The full squad details are available online. Aberdeen's next match is away to St Johnstone on Boxing Day, 2026.
