Aberdeen FC have signed French winger Hicham Mahou, adding a 27-year-old attacker to Stephen Robinson's squad. The club announced the one-year contract, which includes an option for a further year, on their official website this week.
Mahou becomes the 15th new face to arrive at Pittodrie during this summer's transfer window. He joins an Aberdeen side currently sitting 10th in the Premiership with four points from their opening five matches. Their recent form reads DLLLW, and they have scored just two league goals while conceding seven. The Dons are 11 points adrift of leaders Celtic as they prepare for their next fixture, an away trip to face fifth-placed Motherwell on 15 September.
Hicham Mahou is a 27-year-old French winger who most recently played for Swiss Super League side FC Lugano. He made over 120 appearances for the club before departing this summer. His football education began at the academy of OGC Nice, and he gained further first-team experience through loan spells at clubs in France. Mahou described the Scottish league as underrated and expressed his immediate positive impression of his new club.
"It is great to be here," Mahou said. "I have had such a good impression since the moment I arrived."
Manager Stephen Robinson identified Mahou as a player who can add a new dimension to Aberdeen's attack. The Dons' need for more offensive threat is clear from their early-season statistics, which show only two goals scored. Robinson will hope Mahou's pace and direct running can help improve those numbers.
"We're delighted to bring Hicham to Aberdeen," Robinson stated. "He's a player who we believe possesses attributes that will strengthen the group and add another dimension to our attacking play."
Mahou's arrival adds depth to a forward line that is currently without several players due to injury. The club's injuries list includes Bradley Lyons, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Kristers Tobers, and Kusini Yengi.
This 15th signing of the window signals a significant overhaul of the playing group under Robinson. The manager is clearly building a squad capable of competing across a demanding Premiership season and cup competitions. Mahou's experience in a competitive European league like Switzerland's is viewed as a valuable asset.
Integrating so many new players presents a challenge, but it also provides fresh competition for places. The team's current league standings position indicates there is work to do, and new signings like Mahou are expected to contribute quickly. His one-year deal with a club option provides flexibility for both the player and Aberdeen to assess the partnership.
Aberdeen's next opportunity to climb the table comes on 15 September against Motherwell, a match detailed in the club's fixtures schedule. Hicham Mahou has signed a one-year contract with Aberdeen FC.
