Aberdeen FC's Stephen Robinson has been handed a major boost for his summer rebuild as the club's board has agreed to provide funding for new signings. The Dons are looking to reduce their wage bill and recoup some of the fees they paid out. Robinson wants players who will bring an immediate impact rather than long-term project players. The club has already signed Alexander Briedl, Lewis Mayo, and Brad Lyons on free transfers for next season, and midfielder Connor Ronan will join them from Colorado Rapids. The Dons are still looking to massively reduce their wage bill this summer. They invested heavily in Jimmy Thelin's squad after their Scottish Cup win. The club is looking to reduce the playing squad, wage outlay, and recoup some of the fees they paid out. If that happens, then more money will go into Robinson's kitty. Robinson has already made it clear that his Aberdeen squad needs a stronger spine with players who are proven in the Scottish game, hence the immediate arrivals of Mayo, Lyons, and Ronan - who played under Robinson previously at St Mirren. The main priorities for the Aberdeen recruitment team are now defensive and attacking options. Sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel is leading the summer transfer activity, both incoming and outgoing. Nicolas Milanovic, Marko Lazetic, Ante Palaversa, Alexander Jensen, and Kenan Bilalovic are all attracting interest. Western Sydney Wanderers want Milanovic back, while Malmo are amongst those interested in Jensen. Other assets, like keeper Dimitar Mitov could be sold, but only if clubs meet Aberdeen's valuation. The problem is that it is a waiting game with the transfer window not due to open for a couple of weeks. Teams are reluctant to pay fees and wages over the summer, before they return for pre-season. Aberdeen also want to reduce their squad so there is more of a pathway for their young academy talent. Midfielder Findlay Marshall has just signed a new deal and the club remain in talks with Alfie Stewart and Alfie Bavidge over extensions. Robinson wants as much as his business done as early as he can because Aberdeen are back in pre-season in two weeks. They will return to Cormack Park for testing before they head to a European camp. Aberdeen have an early domestic start in the group stages of the Premier Sports Cup. The Dons kick-off against Brora Rangers and also have Queen's Park, Queen of the South, and Kelty Hearts in their group section. Robinson is determined to get through that to build confidence and belief within his new-look group and their fanbase at the start of the season.
