Aberdeen FC Expect Top Four Finish Under Stephen Robinson

Aberdeen legend Gordon Strachan is confident fans can expect a top four finish under Stephen Robinson. The Dons have enjoyed a promising start to the season, securing a League Cup quarter-final and picking up a victory on the opening weekend of the Premiership season.

Defeat to Dundee in the league remains the only blight on Robinson's record this season, but the manager will be feeling the pressure after picking up a side in turmoil. Last season was one to forget for the Red Army as they slumped to a bottom six finish, but Strachan - who lifted two European trophies with the Dons - is certain brighter times are ahead.

Speaking to Betway, the former Scotland boss said: "Top four is a good job. I think with the resources, the players and him as a manager, I think the club and fans would be expecting top four."

It's been a summer of change once again in the Granite City, with more than a dozen new players signed for the season while another dozen have made their exit. Captain Graeme Shinnie led the departures, while there have been some promising additions including German keeper Marius Muller and former Kilmarnock skipper Brad Lyons.

And Strachan believes that Aberdeen need to get back into a routine of making minimal summer tweaks rather than wholesale changes if they are to progress in the near future. He added: "Aberdeen are not in the same bad position as the likes of Dundee or Kilmarnock where you have to change eight or nine people a season because you do not know if you’re going to be in the Premier League or not."

Aberdeen face a trip to Kilmarnock in the League Cup quarters, and little over 12 months on from the high of lifting the Scottish Cup, fans will be hoping for more silverware from Robinson. He stunned Celtic to win the Premier Sports Cup with St Mirren last season before making the move north, but Strachan is wary of the threat the Hoops pose.

The Gothenburg Great said: "They can definitely beat Kilmarnock in the next round, and they [Kilmarnock] were unfortunate to have played Celtic in their second game, that’s a hard start to the season. But I do think Aberdeen can get to the final."
